“Study of Saint Catherine Labouré – Classical Portrait Rendering “

Saint Catherine Labouré (1806–1876) was a member of the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul and is widely known for her Marian visions, which led to the creation of the Miraculous Medal. The distinctive white Cornette headpiece depicted in this drawing was traditionally worn by the daughters of Charity until 1964.

This artwork is a charcoal study created for academic purposes, based on a historical portrait reference. The original painter of the source image is currently unconfirmed. This rendering focuses on tonal control, balance of light and shadow, and classical realism techniques.

Black and white sketch of a bulldog, signed by the artist, with a laptop with purple keyboard in the background.

A desk with a sketchbook, a laptop displaying a picture of a puppy on the screen, and a collection of books on the left side.

I first sketched this with a pencil and then used a pen to emphasize the texture details.
